Royal Canadian Air Force FEATURED ARTICLE – September 2025
A Message from the Chairman of the
Board of Directors of the RCAFA – Terry Chester
It has been a very busy spring and summer as we worked on implementing the transition plan that we began in February. Thanks to the outstanding work of our Executive Director and the Board of Directors, significant progress has been made in the key areas of communication and restructure, getting us well on the way to constancy and stability. Through the medium of Town Hall meetings, we were able to get direct input from our members about what they wanted and needed, and we used multiple Webpage management planning meetings to lay out our requirement for a better, more responsive, website. You should see it unveiled sometime in November. Our financial management team, EDG have facilitated the transition of financial authority from our previous executive, and they are also ensuring the secure transfer of all membership data and financial records into an updated system. We have finally closed the Somerset Office and are currently using spaces kindly provided by CFN Consultants.
Of course, one of the major highlights was the production and launch of not just one, but two digital versions of Airforce Magazine, which has been very well received. This new format and distribution methodology for the magazine is coming along just fine, although not without some problems in ensuring that all of our members have access, but the solutions are well in hand, and this will eventually increase our messaging platform by a hundredfold when it is in steady state. The Finance committee has produced a comprehensive budget that will be seen at the AGM this fall, and the RCAFA Kit Shop has also been revitalized, with new management and improved operations. We had a remarkably productive meeting with LGen Jamie Speiser-Blanchet early in July, just prior to her taking Command and were able to agree on a synergistic and cooperative way forward in our relationship. We are also working on a shared vision and mission statement with our friends in the RCAFA Foundation as we share many similar goals and objectives.
The Battle of Britain Parade on September 21st at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa was a resounding success; we were able to honour the distinguished veteran Desmond Peters and we were also able to obtain a candid interview with the Comd, which appears in this issue of the magazine. We also were able to host the Comd at our table at the VIP Vimy dinner at the War Museum.
Looking ahead, several key initiatives are planned for the coming months. These include the continued development of the RCAFA website, the finalization of the FY 2025-2ti budget, and the organization of the RCAFA AGM in November. We will also be electing a new Board of Directors prior to this AGM, and we are actively seeking new members to that body. The AGM will be held in conjunction with our other very visible event, the Air Force Day on the Hill. Planning and engagement with government representatives and corporate sponsors is ongoing, conducted by none other than Dean Black, our former ED, who has the magic touch with these events. Finally, the RCAFA Business Plan for FY 2025-26 is being developed to align with the priorities set by the Board of Directors.
In summary, the past year has been marked by significant achievements and the groundwork laid for multiple future initiatives. The transition plan is progressing well, with a focus on enhancing our operational capabilities and strengthening our engagement with our member and stakeholders alike. The future looks very bright.
